About the Role
Bark is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud Platform Engineering team. The team is responsible for owning and operating Bark’s cloud infrastructure, and developing our internal developer platform. Over the past year we have invested significantly in renewing our cloud infrastructure and creating an internal standardised developer platform. We operate a modern IaC driven AWS based cloud infrastructure built on top of EKS.
Your role is to manage a group of cloud infrastructure and DevOps engineers in operating and extending our cloud capabilities. We have an ambitious vision on how we want to continue driving towards world class cloud infrastructure and developer experience. We expect you to be an experienced leader who has a great grasp of best practices in building and operating a modern cloud infrastructure, is an experienced people manager and has excellent skills in running the day-to-day operations of a team.
You will collaborate closely with the rest of the engineering leadership team, including our Principal Engineer and Architecture squad, in building our technical capabilities. You will be part of the technical leadership team and report directly to the CTO.
Depending on your experience and skill, we are looking to hire you either as an Engineering Manager or a Senior Engineering Manager (Head of Platform). As we grow as a business and invest most into our capabilities additional platform teams may end up reporting to a Head of Platform role, such as data engineering or security engineering.
Responsibilities
Manage Cloud Platform Engineering Team and group of cloud infrastructure and DevOps engineers
Own Bark’s cloud infrastructure. You are responsible for driving reliability, scalability, security and cost efficiency of the platform.
Own Bark’s standard internal developer platform - build standard tools, automation and templates allowing the rest of the engineering squads to move fast
Own technical delivery and drive Agile practices of the squad
Drive technical excellence and best practices in creating a world class cloud hosting environment and internal developer platform
Contribute to the technology strategy work of the broader department
Coach, mentor and drive the competence development of your engineers
Create a higher performing squad
Required Skills and Experience
2+ years of experience in managing people and 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure related roles
Experience in managing and growing engineering talent
Experience in managing remote teams
Great analytics problems solving and organisational skills
Great soft skills in motivating, inspiring and leading a team
Experience in working and driving agile delivery practices
Great communication allowing effective collaboration across technical leadership and various business stakeholders
Desired skills and experience
Knowledge of the AWS cloud hosting environment
EKS/K8s knowledge
Experience with IaC cloud stack
Security engineering related experience is considered a major plus
